Seberg was born in Marshaltown, Iowa in 1938. As an innocent 17 year old, she won the coveted role of Joan of Arc in Otto Preminger's movie version of the Shaw play "Saint Joan". During her lifetime she would make 33 films. She married unhappily and divorced; she starred in "Breathless", the seminal 1960 Godard film; she tried suicide; her husband, Romain Gary, mocked and humiliated her; she raised money and kept guns for the Black Panthers and was "driven" to suicide in 1979 after years of subsequent FBI investigations.
